Sypnosis:China, 1898. Bands of foreign missionaries and soldiers roam the countryside, bullying and robbing Chinese peasants.
Little Bao has had enough. Harnessing the powers of ancient Chinese gods, he recruits an army of Boxers--commoners trained in kung fu--who fight to free China from "foreign devils."
Against all odds, this grass-roots rebellion is violently successful. But nothing is simple. Little Bao is fighting for the glory of China, but at what cost? So many are dying, including thousands of "secondary devils"--Chinese citizens who have converted to Christianity.

Thoughts: I absolutely adored this book.
It's dealings with Religiocentrism, Ethonocentrism, and Extremism are Amazing and though the book may not be created for, and is sometimes a little too mature for kids, it's written hilariously, the illustrations were so awesome, and the serious subject dealt with so well I want to show all the kids/teens I know.! (Maybe...teens only)
Boxers shows the side some may not be familiar with of Christians trying to convert other religious groups to theirs. There's a strong difference between missionaries/missions and extremism and it's shown here.
I can't wait to read the opposite side of this story in Saints. On to the next one.!
